A Message about Trust

We’ve often heard that trust is something which must be earned. But if that is the case, no person on earth would be trusted. The only way for a person to receive trust is to be trusted with something; therefore, if trust must be earned every person would remain with an account of zero trust dollars in their bank of trust.

I believe this idea of “trust being earned” is exactly what has lead to our world filled with great fear and distrust of one another. As a child we trust our parents until at some point we are let down. We once saw our parents as infallible beings but at some point we began to see them less god-like and more like one of us, experiencing the same issues and emotions we all face in life.

We grow to learn about romance in relationships which often leads to our first emotional heartbreak. The “first-love” time-frame is one of the greatest opportunities we have to learn about who exactly we truly are. In many cases this is the first time we invested all of our trust and heart into a singular external individual, and also our insecurities. We had filled our mind with expectations, only to have them doused by circumstance and differing life-paths. We have the option of continuing to believe in trust, or to shut ourselves away from the world.

I propose that trust is not something that must be earned; rather, something that must be given. True trust can only be given by one who is totally secure with themselves. When we place our own trust in materialism, we are easily subjected to being taken advantage of and have little capacity for trusting others, let alone ourselves. But when we find our identity, security, and true peace in the true reality of spiritual elements such as love and happiness, we are content and no circumstance or behavior of another towards us will overcome our peace.

We are in a position to give trust to all regardless of their actions, believing that giving trust is the only means by which any of us ever truly becomes trustworthy. As trust increases we will see crime against each other reduced drastically. We will see relationships thrive in new ways and at new levels.

So trust each other, without fear.
